A former Miss Noel, Miss West and Miss Wob Dwiyet, Laurel Anselm, who contested her first beauty pageant at the tender age of 12, is pursuing this year her dream of becoming Carnival Queen.

At age 21, she is a Data Entry Clerk at the Treasury Department who has her sights on becoming a "super model". Born in the village of Salisbury, Laurel received her secondary education at the Wesley High School and was introduced to
the "basics of the business world" at Convent Secretarial. In her spare time, she enjoys modelling and reading. Laurel says if she becomes carnival queen she will do her best nationally and internationally, "to make Dominica and Dominicans proud..." Launching of Miss Laurel Anselm
22 year old Josian Joseph from Petite Savanne sees her participation in this year's Carnival Queen competition as an opportunity to "contribute towards the promotion and enhancement" of her village in particular and Dominica's Carnival in general.

A graduate of the Dominica Grammar School and the Sixth Form College, Josian is presently employed as Personal Assistant to the President and Board of

Directors of British Trade and Commerce Bank. While she enjoys her job however, especially the opportunity it provides to meet and interact with people locally and internationally, she remains fully committed to the idea of eventually establishing her own business. Josian is 5' 7" and weighs 127 lbs. Miss Farah Valmond
If she has her way, Farah Valmond from the hamlet of Bataca in the Carib Territory, will be a journalist or hotel manager one day. She is 18 and easy-going with a love for meeting new people and building community that has influenced her involvement in "a number of different groups".

Farah was educated at the St. Andrews High School and intends to further her studies as soon as the opportunity becomes available.
Her hobbies include acting, dancing, modelling and choreography. This year's Carnival Queen Competition gives Farah a chance to show how much she is "a true Dominican".... See Her Launching
Etlyn Thomas is 22 years old and comes from the village of Marigot where she cherishes the spirit of adventure, collects stamps, dances, sings and listen to music in her spare time.

A former student of the St. Andrews High School and the Academic Division of the Clifton Dupigny Community College, she is presently employed as an accounts clerk at Courts (Dominica) Limited. Etlyn is 5' 7" tall and weighs 1281bs. Launching Miss Elthlyn Thomas

Decima Darroux
Miss Decima Darroux!
For 19 year old Decima Darroux, a former Miss Wob Dwiyet (Eastern District), the 1998 Carnival Queen Competition is "just another stepping stone" to her main goal of "participating in an international pageant".

Decima was born in the village of Petite Soufriere and completed her high school education at the St. Martin Secondary School. Her career objectives is to become a Certified Public Accountant.
At present, she is employed at Number One Store where she welcomes the opportunity to "meet and interact with different personalities on a daily basis". Her hobbies include dancing and modelling. She contested her first beauty pageant 9 years ago. 9 years later at age 18; Palestrina Rolle of Newtown is a participant in the 1998 Carnival Queen Competition anxious to "prove to Dominicans as well as visitors" that dreams are only the beginning of success.

Kamalah Jno-Baptiste

1998 Carnival Queen Twenty-one-year old Carnival Queen Contestant Kamalah Jno. Baptiste of Bath Estate is aspiring to pursue studies in Communications Law and to become a fashion show model.

She is a graduate of the Dominica Grammar School where her favourite subject was English Language. Kamalah also graduated from the Kingsborough College in New York where she studied Computer Science and Criminology. She is now employed as a Data Entry Clerk at D & L Limited.

Consistent with her childhood interest in taking care of those who need help, 20-year-old Georgette George would like to pursue a career in Child Psychology. From the community of Copthall, she is 5' 6" tall and weighs 120 lbs. Georgette attended the Wesley High School and is hopeful that her focus on the sciences "will be of great help" in furthering her career. Presently, she is a traineee at the World Wide Wagering Company. Previously, she was employed on a part-time basis at St. Paul's Co-operative Credit Union in Mahaut on her return from Antigua where she had Georgette Grorge
